The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week....Enjoying family life and taking a slow pace as the Christmas holidays approach. Having fun with my kids baking and doing seasonal handicrafts. Cleaning up and organizing the home in expectation of a full house over the holidays. Some projects include replacing our tub surround, painting the kitchen, cleaning out freezers and cupboards and just some odd repairs to most of the house.

In our homeschool this week....Continuing with our reading of The Chronicles of Narnia and using the Veritas Press study guide that goes with it. Adding in a few extra 'craft' days to make holiday decorations and enjoying every moment with my little kindergartner as she begins to pick up the reading process!

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share....Try to add in at least one day a week for handicrafts. This is my weakness but I am doing better and brings a nice change to our everyday lives.

I am inspired by....My daughter Juli and how she is so crafty, creative, and able to bring such beauty to her own home. In this, she did not get from me!

Places we are going and people we are seeing....We will be popping into our country neighbors to wish a very Merry Christmas and leave a plate of goodies.

My favorite thing this week was....My boys insisted I go into town and do some shopping and that they would happily tend to the girls. (I wonder if they were inspired by Christmas!!!!)

What's working/not working for us....My new schedule is working for us and so glad I finally decided to put it down on paper. I will share in the near future.

Questions/thoughts I have....Why are most things in life so overrated? (Sorry, not opening this can of worms. Just saying)

Things I'm working on.....STILL-that last nasty 10 lbs that just won't leave my body no matter what I do. (It's only been about a year now, what's up with that?)

I'm reading, again....The Latin Centered Curriculum. Wonderful book by the way. If you get a chance to read it I recommend you do.

I'm cooking....Cupcakes. Lots of them. I found this fun cookbook at the library called Two Bite Cupcakes. Whew, it's to die for. HMM, no wonder I can't lose the last 10.

I'm grateful for....The quiet house right now and the warm glow of our woodstove. I know it's lame and there are many things more important to be thankful for but at this moment, in the here and now, it's the beauty and heat I'm being blessed with.

I'm praying for....My children as I always do but throwing in some extra prayers for a few of my children and for their particular needs at this time.

Favorite photos to share....Where do the days go!

Love the woodstove. There is somethin about that thing that brings sweet memories of being a little girl and being so warm and feeling so protected in out house from winter's wind and such!

it's cheaper than buying it and then you can make it exactly how you want it!

I hear you on the handicrafts and making time for it! I also hear you on losing the last ten pounds--same here--why won't it go away???
Well, I don't see mine going away soon with the holiday baking coming up that my daughters do!

It is so nice to hear a good bunch of news from you Tricia. We also have been de-cluttering and fixing up; and enjoying advent verses and challenges. I see you took off some of the kids and family pictures. Your page always looks nice though.

Lot's of soup lately here, which is my fave. I've also been re-arranging--I had help and brought the bookshelves upstairs in the 'den' between mine and Tom's room and the girl's room. A nice fluffy carpet and books changed out makes the kids want to come up and read. Now to make it more Barnes and Noble, with cappuccino and large stuffed bears! Not really! Lol. God bless.

Wonderful photos, and I always love reading these question and answer post. It's so nice to see what other homeschoolers are doing. I look forward to seeing your schedule too.
I'm just working at keeping those lbs off. It's hard this time of year, and cupcakes are a weakness of mine too :)
Have a glorious Sunday!
Blessings,
Marcia
