A Day Late on Loving my Husband Friday!!

31 October 2009

I keep thinking, and thinking, and thinking for what to say this week about my hubby. And all I can come up with is

WOW

Happy Birthday to Kelly

26 October 2009

Yesterday, October 27th. was son in law Kelly's 28th birthday.  Here
he is dressed in his favorite outfit and very much enjoying it I might say.  Oh
wait, this isn't Kelly.  It's his handsome son Beckham, posing as Kelly
when he
dresses up for a night out on the town!

Sometimes though he doesn't even "dress" to hit the town at all!!   Kelly had
to take off his shirt to bring some white light to the dark night after losing
to a game of basketball to my 2 boys. Hey, a deal's a deal.  That'll teach him!!
Apparently, he didn't learn the first time.  Here he is losing again!!
In all seriousness though.  Kelly is one AWESOME guy.  If you're going to
have an 'in law' then you would want him.  We love him lots and he sure makes
our Juli happy!! Not to mention a great dad to Aubryn and Beckham.

Happy Birthday Kelly!!  We love you lots!!

A Lifestyle Education through Discipleship

25 October 2009

Would you agree that you want your children to have knowledge, to know
things--including things like how to read, write, and compute?  Would you
agree that you want your children to be wise, to make proper decisions
and act on them appropriately in life?

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of
the holy is understanding."  And the fear of the Lord is the beginning of
knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.  Proverbs 9:10 and
1:7  Wisdom is the most important thing we are to seek.  Wisdom is the
principle thing.  Therefore get wisdom and with all your getting get
understanding.

If you agree to the words above so eloquently written by my friend Lisa
over at Me And My House then you will love her newest resource
creatively called Freedom and Simplicity on R Road to Biblical Wisdom.
You can read more about it HERE on her website.  She goes on to say
"true learning is a process of gaining wisdom, understanding and knowledge.
This process of learning is really several processes, both internal and
external, that work together as we receive new ideas and information, reflect
upon them, reason through them Biblically, integrate them into our lives
and thought processes, and then produce our own individual output based
upon them.  Here is a glimpse of the table of contents and some of the
wonderful and creative methods she uses in her homeschool as she teaches
her family of ten children.  As you will see, she has covered many topics and
given great ideas on how to implement them.

Chapter 3 ~
Recitation
Copywork
Narration
Learning Maps
Note-taking
Timelines

And the wealth of knowledge doesn't end there.  In chapter 5 she
 covers the following--

Book of Remembrance Journals and other Formats
Essays and Other Compositions
Learning Maps and Other Graphics
Journaling Pages
Book of Remembrance Journal Organization
Journals-Worthy, But Not the Key Goal

I have been homeschooling now for 23 years and Lisa's work was an eye
opener for me.  I can imagine what great help it would be for someone
just beginning the journey of educating their families at home.  Thanks Lisa.

Lisa has written many such guides leaning on her many years of raising,
feeding, and homeschooling her large family.  To view her resources that
she offers visit her website by clicking HERE.

I am so NOT fooled

24 October 2009

My silly girls do this ALL the time!!  Mostly at night when they are snuggling together
watching a movie I will open their door to give a quick good night kiss and as soon as
that door opens they shut their eyes and pretend to be asleep!!  I mean, come on now,
do they really think they have me fooled?!!  So I stand there quietly trying not to
laugh just to see how long they can last.  Usually no more than 15 seconds.  But,
with much practice over the years they are getting better. I think they're up to
maybe 20 seconds or so!!

Cool, I'm off to buy some Cracker Jacks

Did you get yours?

Now anyone can get it!!!!!!

6 Unknown Facts About Me/Georgous Blogger Award

19 October 2009

In order to put this georgous blogger award on my blog I must come up with 6 things relatively unknown about me. I consider myself quite ordinary but maybe I can come up with something once I put my thinking cap on!! Jump on over to Mumma's Place where this came from and check out her blog.

1. I am the 5th child of 6 children born in Cincinnati, Ohio

2. I was a competitive ice skater for 6 years. Then I coached for a few years. Back in the day!!

3. When I was 18 I joined the Army National Guard in Colorado specializing in small arms repair and as a result of my experience with small arms I earned the Expert Marksman medal.

4. After we moved from CO to WI with 5 children we moved to an island off the Wolf River. For almost 3 years and 6 children we had to cross the river to get to our home by boat. During the winter we crossed a railroad trestle between freezing times of the river. Sometimes in life it is a reality to put your ear to the track to check for oncoming trains!! Tis better to know firsthand if one is approaching rather than jumping into the river with 6 children in tow.

5. Witnessing the birth of my first grandson is another relatively unknown fact about me. An extremely awesome experience.

6. A dream I've dreamed my whole life is to one day homestead, go off the grid, and live totally off the land.

Now go ahead. Take the award and reward yourself while you bless your readers with 6 things unknown about yourself!!

Sisters Sisters, There were never such devoted sisters

13 October 2009

I grew up in a home of 6 children. 5 girls and 1 boy. And I have yet to figure out
the bond that holds so many sisters together. Here I have captured some
of my favorite photos of my daughters sharing wonderful moments with each other.
It is awesome to me to see the love they share with one another. I'm sure we are
all
familiar with the song lyrics to Sisters Sisters. Here is a portion of the lyrics to that
song that I must say describes my "little" and "big" girls.

"Those who've seen us know that not a thing could come
between us."

Oops!! We are missing one of our girls in this photo!!

Our little granddaughter fits right in with the "sisters" being tucked in between
all her aunts. She is the smily one wearing black and white. Our 3rd daughter wasn't
around when we took this photo.

Juli may be a mama now but she still has time to snuggle with
little sister!!
While catching her breath to love her little daughter who doesn't appear to be
too happy at the moment.

This was a special time for our married daughter Juli. These photos show the
very first time Juli laid eyes on her newest sister. At the time of this photo Juli had
a little daughter just over a year old. She told me not long ago, "I feel like I've been
taking care of kids my whole life!" Well, being the eldest of 12 and sister in law to
15 kids, I suppose she has been!!
