Okay, so I said in my last post that January came and went without too many mishaps! I was wrong. Robyn's surgery from dance went very well in and of itself. The trouble came when my tiny 23 year old daughter couldn't manage ridding her body of the meds given her before, (anesthetic), and after surgery, (pain killers and anti nausea). Before surgery on Sunday night she couldn't eat anything after midnight. Come Tuesday night she STILL hadn't had anything at all. NOTHING, not even in the form of water. Most of Monday she slept but Tuesday brought the troubles. We tried simple things like blueberries, two to be exact, a saltine, bits of water. She wasn't keeping anything down at all. No matter what we tried it all came back up. She was so sick. Finally in the early evening hours we determined with the help of her podiatrist that she needed to go to ER. So we bundled her up, grabbed her brother, he grabbed her and hauled her out to the car and off we went. Mama, Robyn, and little sister Kaydee on our way to the hospital nearly an hour away.
After an IV, more anti-nausea medicine, and morphine being dumped through her system we prayed to see a much happier daughter. After the IV drip was complete we prepared to leave and didn't even make it to the car when she began - um, 'emptying' her tummy again. I go back in to talk to the nurse and she was quite certain it was the morphine and that now she should start to bounce back since she obviously had it out of her body. After a stop at midnight at the nearest grocery store for popsicles, applesauce and such we headed for home. Again, big/little brother Aaron carried her to bed and tucked our completely exhausted daughter into bed. Mom and Kaydee head off to sleep when only 4 hours later my phone went off and I was needed in Robyn's room. Heavy hearted, preparing myself for the worst again I head down the hall to her room. Upon nearing her bed I hear a healthy; "I'm starving." YES! Thank you Heavenly Father. She requested chocolate milk but I quickly shut her down on that and offered only dry toast and jello. And now as you can see, while all is not completely 100% she is well enough to come downstairs, watch a movie, play games with her siblings, (which she is doing in this photo) and most of all, SMILE!
Now, for the first time since surgery on her ankle she is feeling the pain. She was so overtaken with her other condition she completely forgot about her foot. Which Christina, she actually injured while dancing by taking a fall. To further answer your questions she minored in dance during her last 4 years in college. She did everything you could think of, Lyrical, Irish, Clogging, Modern, mostly all kinds. But she injured her ankle doing Irish when she fell. Somehow a bone in her ankle shifted away from a tendon and stuck out (inside the skin) from her foot. It didn't always give her problems but enough to know that she would eventually need the surgery. Which was really hard to schedule while she was in school so we waited until she graduated in December 2011 so she'd have more time. Basically, she just lived with a for a couple of years. And now that she is getting married we thought it the perfect time before the wedding to be laid up.

Thank the Lord that your daughter is recovering from that nightmare! It sounded like quite a scary experience to me. I hope Mom is doing better now too. :)
Blessings!
It was a bit unnerving. To add to it I was kind of sick myself with a nasty cold. But you know ERooms, you can easily spend several hours there which we did and we knew it wouldn't be good for daddy to go along since he had to be up and ready for work the next day at 4 AM. But I'm glad I was able to be there for her. Daddy took her for surgery but I'm happy that I was able to be there to comfort her at the ER.
Poor, poor thing. I'm so glad she is doing better. How scary.
So glad she is eating now and on the mend. What an awful accident to have to happen to her.I always worry about these girls and the dancing they do for hours at a time and mostly everyday--the stress it must be on the bones and tendons etc. My daughters danced in a dance company starting around age 11 and one is now majoring in it at the university. One daughter who did not major or minor in it has knees that hurt with any type of running/exercise which she is sure is from the dancing. They do mostly ballet, but also do modern, lyrical, jazz, tap.
Perfect time is before her wedding to get this done--you were right about that!
Oh, poor girl!!! Glad she is on the mend, I'll keep her in my prayers! What a wonderful big-little brother she has:)
So glad the dramatic situation had a good ending. Hope she's lots better and you as well.
Thank you so much for your encouraging advice! I can usually count on the long timer home school mums to pull me up short!
Oh, this made me cry t read it!! Soo glad she is feeling better now!!!!!
